DONNAéWEB (WomanIsWeb) 2009. Six Edition.
This selection is sponsored by Asso Web Italia Onlus, Province of Lucca, Viareggio Municipality and APT Versilia
Art. 1.0 OUR AIMS
Our general guidelines: to promote women’s contribution in the new economy through the spreading of online projects and initiatives and to underline the importance of the new IT professions in enhancing female employment and women’s cultural and entrepreneurial efforts.
Art. 2.0 COUNTRY
The selection is on national scale and since 2009 it has included an international section for women from all nationalities.
Art. 3.0 TIMELINES
Application are opened from the 28th of July until the 30th October 2009. The award ceremony will be held on Saturday the 5th in Viareggio, Tuscany.
Art. 4.0 RECIPIENTS
This selection is open to all the women who use the web to work and express their creativity. Free lance and professional web workers are allowed to apply. The selection is also for women who are owners or managers of a company, work in the public sector at a managerial level, are responsible of an institution or association, or writers, artists, journalists, bloggers, website owners etc.

Art. 6.0 ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTS
The first general rule is to fill in the online application form correctly in the special area of the Web Italia Onlus association website.
The second rule is to observe the payment of the enrolment fee (for the first enrolment)
The contest admittance requires the knowledge and approval of this regulation.
Art 6.1 Participation Rules
DonnaèWeb 2009 enrolment cannot be accepted if the application doesn’t refer to someone who is not a female.
This means that the winner of the contest can only be a woman, as only projects by women are admitted.
The contest is subject to the Italian and European laws.
Art. 6.2 Enrolment Fee
Each candidate can present the selection one or more projects.
First enrolment costs a 30 Euros fee, to be paid online through credit card.
The enrolment for further projects is free.
Art 6.3 Team Enrolment
If a project is presented by a team including several candidates, each one with a specific role and merit, it is necessary:
1.to pay the enrolment fee for the first candidate;
2.to use the free application form for each of the other candidates.
When entering the application form the name of the team’s project must be clearly stated.
Art. 6.4 Enrolment Options
Enrolment can take place:
- As self-enrolment
- Enrolment by a third party
- Enrolment for merits (winners or previous finalists of DIW, PWI and other Italian and international awards) by an important source.
Art. 7.0 APPLICATION FORM
The following information is required:
Applicant’s first and family name, project title and relative website.
Prospective collaboration with public or private organizations.
Professional field, theme of the project, web instruments used.
A description of each part of the project (idea, website, online communication through social media etc.).
Personal data: first and family name of the person making the actual payment, telephone number, address, company name.

Art. 8.0 CATEGORIES
Nominations will be presented in these areas:
Professional Role:
Project Head Manager, Art Director, Technology Development, Web Content, Web Design, Web Marketing, Purchaser.
Project Typology:
Idea, Website, Blog Platform, Web 2.0, Multimedia, Technical Application, Marketing Operation.
Interest Sector:
Social Network, Event, Company and/or Ecommerce, Social, Scientific or Environmental Initiatives, Art or Cultural Product, Public Administration, Information.
Each applicant takes part officially in “DONNAèWEB2009”

Art. 9.0 APPLICATION ACCEPTANCE
Application is accepted if:
the application form has been correctly filled out
the web address is accessible
the project is created in abidance with Italian and European laws
The Management Committee is responsible for accepting submissions and can suspend, disqualify or cancel an application at all times i.e. also after the acceptance procedures.
The Management Committee is not responsible for the content of the websites submitted and values applications exclusively for their technical aspects.
Information given at the time of enrolment is accepted by the Committee under the responsibility of the applicant.
Art. 10.0 PROJECT ASSESSMENT
The assessment of the projects is meant to select the most outstanding works and on this basis a list of finalists is chosen.
Evaluation areas include:
- Project idea (level of originality and innovation)
- Communicative features (language style, content structure, project and design)
- Technical features (functionality, performance, technology, user-friendliness, adopted solutions)
- Social aspects (innovative solutions with a strong social outcome, fostering of equal opportunities, environment-friendliness etc.)
The following are the potential roles and professions evaluated:
- Art Direction
- Design
- Planning
- Technology Development
- Web Marketing
- Web Writing
Art. 11.0 SELECTION OF FINALISTS
Finalists are selected with the following criteria:
Candidate role:
- the candidate’s personal endeavour in the selected work
- the candidate’s contribution in the project plan
- the candidate’s contribution in the technical and creative areas
- the candidate’s contribution in the management area
Project assessment:
Project Agreeability. Project complexity; Item individuality (brand); Name domain; Innovative creations and ideas.
Appeal. Web impact; Clarity; Adopted metaphors; Suggestion power.
Language. Pertinence, clarity and concision; Vocabulary and syntax; Grammatical constructions (hidden meanings, communication games, literary, textual and iconographic quotations).
Service. Interactivity level (cluster UE); Effective amount of services in use; Actual performance level and fruition; Back office availability.
Design. Refinement; Originality; Taste and colour balance; Attention to details.
Further criteria for excellence:
Specific and thematic criteria (accessibility, journalistic registration, other certifications, previous awards, E-learning, E-government, E-democracy etc.)
Art. 12.0 SELECTION PANEL AND AWARD PANEL
Selection panel, who chooses the finalists, is composed by members accredited by Asso Web Italia; they are generally professionals: internet experts, communication experts, programming engineers, designers, public sector managers with information science expertise, accessibility experts, project experts.
For the final stage of the contest a different, an ad hoc panel is formed, made up of experts from various knowledge areas, to choose the finalist for each category.
Selection is made with “personal criteria”, on the basis of the experiences and knowledge of each juror.
Art. 13.0 NOMINATIONS
The Management Committee, after checking the preferences of the selection panel, makes a category list of nominees (3 to 5 for each category). After the nominations, the candidate will be informed about technical and organization details and she will be required to give her approval.
Decisions by the Management Committee are final.
The Committee, on the basis of the jurors’ decisions, hands out motivations, documentation and potential suggestions about special mentions to the award panel.
Art. 13.1 Nominations Notice
Notice of the nominations is mailed to the finalists at least 30 days before the prize award ceremony.
Further technical and organizational details will follow and the finalist will be required to answer giving a confirmation about her presence during the award ceremony.
Art. 14.0 AWARDS
Prizes will be awarded during a public ceremony on the 5th of December 2009 in Viareggio. Prizes will be awarded exclusively to winners or potential delegates or, given a justified reason for their absence, in a later ceremony.
In case of absence of a delegate and failure to provide a valid reason, the Committee has the right to decide not to assign the prize without an obligation to clarify this choice.
Art. 14.1 Prizes
DonnaèWeb is a symbolical award.
It is represented by a statuette made of papier-mache, created by the maestri of the Viareggio Carnival, and represents a silhouette of Ada Byron, the first woman who has dealt with IT programming.
Further prizes for the winners are available, assigned by sponsors and partners. Information will be given during the enrolment period.
Art. 15.0 AUTHOR’S RIGHTS
Author’s rights on the projects remain with the legitimate holder. It is her duty to protect her own work, if it is deemed opportune, with the registration by the competent institution.
Once it receives the application form, the Committee is authorised to use the project for the contest and for further publications, to show, quote and duplicate it in its website, also with the intent of building a data base of award-winning or noteworthy websites. The Committee may also mention it in its own website having the author (or authors and/or the rights’ owner) waived any claims to royalties, right or remuneration for such use.
Art. 16.0 LEGAL TERMS
DonnaèWeb is a brand owned by Synteam sas granted to Asso Web Italia Onlus.
All the participation rights by DonnaèWeb brand are granted exclusively to participants, project holders and the organizations which have taken part in their achievement.
The grants include the use of the “candidate”, “finalist”, “winner”, “special prize” logos and further logos created and distributed by Asso Web Italia only for information and promotional purposes.
The commercial activities are entrusted by Asso Web Italia and Synteam sas.
Art. 17.0 CONTEST WITHDRAWAL
Candidates are allowed to withdraw from the contest before the day of the nominations, by sending an email from the same email address used for the enrolment. Cancellation will be put immediately in place. Once the list of finalists is published, enrolment cannot be cancelled.
Art. 18.0 APPEALS AND MENTIONS
Any decision on nominations and winners is final.
The Committee is open to reconsider the evaluation of projects not deemed eligible.
This reappraisal will be justified by lack of information in the presentation of the project.
Appeals and disputes against a candidate are not considered if not on the basis of a clear violation of Italian laws and with a condemnation by qualified authorities communicated to the Commettee through supporting documentation.
Appeals can be presented exclusively by an organization regularly enrolled or accredited by Asso Web Italia.
Anonymous and/or unsupported disputes will not be considered.
